A meme video page for Phoenix Nights has gathered thousands of followers on social media sites.
No Context Phoenix Nights on Twitter and Instagram has racked up around 60,000 followers with clips taken from the popular show starring Bolton’s Peter Kay and Paddy McGuinness, turned into memes.
The page was started by Peter Kay fan Jack Claire, from Huddersfield, who after talking about the show to co-workers in Gilbraltar, was met with two passionate Northern fans.
He said: “After I moved to Gilbraltar in 2012, I took DVDs and box sets with me and I must have mentioned it at work one day that I was watching Phoenix Nights, when two of the lads said they loved it.
“I do think it’s a niche thing to like but the boys said I should make a page and it went from there.
“I re-watched all the shows, and I downloaded the episodes and worked out how to make a tiny clip to use for a meme.
“People want a meme, that’s what they prefer.”
Memes on the page include a caption like “Trying to get an emergency plumber out” followed by a clip of Peter’s line “the price on the street is eight grand”.
Fans love the page with people commenting how funny it is and often resharing the memes on it
Jack added: “I remember when it was a big deal when it came out and to watch them when they debuted.
“It was the type of show we liked back then and still come back to now.
“I didn’t expect the page to get this big, it was just a joke between my mates with things we would say, that’s where the ideas come from.
“There’s only 10 episodes so I’ve had to be creative, but I also work in PR so my skills in social media have helped me.”
