Northern’s January Flash Sale sees half a million more cheap tickets

Railway company Northern has released millions of train tickets in their January sale, with some journeys available for as little as 50p.

Ahead of the last day of its flash sale, the North East railway provider has released a further 500,000 train tickets for its most popular routes.

This is the latest in Northern’s moves to “get people back on the railways”, but follows months of disruption due to rail strikes. Rail operators are set to make a new pay offer to union bosses in the coming days, following a revised mandate from the Government.

As part of the sale, one-million 50p tickets, three million £1 tickets, and one million £1.50 tickets are for sale.

Some of the North East routes available with big discounts include:

  • Newcastle to Carlisle
  • Newcastle to Middlesbrough
  • Whitby to Middlesbrough
  • Nunthorpe to Whitby

There are plenty of other routes available across the North of England too, such as:

  • Hull to Bridlington
  • Sheffield to Doncaster

Mark Powles, commercial and customer director at Northern, said: “We’ve had an amazing response to our January Flash Sale – hence the decision to release a further 500,000 tickets and add a number of new routes into the mix. That said, all good things must come to an end and the sale will close at 4 pm tomorrow, so customers should book now to avoid disappointment.”

Earlier this week, Rail Minister, Huw Merriman, praised Northern’s Flash Sale, saying: “We need to get people back on our railways and initiatives like this will do just that.”

Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with nearly 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.
