Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) is set to experience a hellish festive season in EastEnders this year, with some home truths about his new wife Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) set to be revealed.

The beloved character and pup landlord, as viewers know, tied the knot with Janine last week, despite still being head over heels in love with ex-wife Linda (Kellie Bright).

Janine, knowing that her beau is still holding a candle for his ex, has spent much of this year scheming to keep him away from his beloved L, by alienating him against her.

Linda has been put through hell by the schemer, and even nearly had her baby daughter Annie taken off her due to her love rival’s actions.

But with some help from Shirley (Linda Henry), the truth about Janine’s shocking schemes will be revealed over the festive season, and Mick’s world falls apart as as result.

With all hell set to break loose at the Vic, the question on everyone’s lips is just what does the future hold for Mick? Will confronting Janine prove to be his last stand?

And is actor Danny Dyer leaving for good?

It has been confirmed that Danny will be bowing out of his role as Mick Carter this Christmas, with his last episode airing on Christmas day itself; the ninth anniversary of his arrival.

His exit was first announced in January, following the news that he had signed up to a Sky series.

It is thought that Mick’s exit will be spurred on by the revelation that Janine framed Linda for a car accident.

‘Thirty years I’ve been knocking about in this industry and nearly ten I’ve been in this show,’ Danny said, discussing his decision to leave the show.

‘To make the decision I made, I didn’t make it lightly. It’s a huge job to walk away from. I thought long and hard about it and I wanted it to be a fitting end, so hopefully it is.’

When Danny told the show’s bosses he was planning to leave, they asked him to stay on a bit longer so his exit could be part of the Christmas episode, neatly book-ending the actor’s time in the show and providing an epic Christmas Day send-off for the character.

‘I’ve done a lot of Christmas eps over the years,’ Danny recalled.

‘We came in at Christmas. It’s an intense process and it’s tough but when you get the right dialogue and the right material it’s such a beautiful thing that you’re reaching a lot of people and that’s a massive platform and everyone wants to sit down and watch a bit of EastEnders.’

Does Mick Carter die in EastEnders?

Mick’s fate remains shrouded in mystery, but his final episode proves to be explosive, as his world implodes around him, with the landlord finally forced to face a harsh reality.

Desperate for the answers, he demands the truth but Janine flees Albert Square. Mick, with Linda in tow,  jumps in the car and follows a desperate Janine and the events which ensue result in Christmas Day becoming his last in Walford.

As of right now, it is unclear as to whether or not Mick will survive his final episode and leave the soap alive.

Images obtained by The Sun have shown Danny filming what may be his final scenes on location at the top of a cliff.

The images show him jumping from the clifftop, followed by a car being driven over the edge.

Could these dramatic scenes be Mick’s demise, or will he live to tell the tale?

Danny first appeared on our screens as the loveable Mick back in 2013, during EastEnders’ Christmas day episode.

Since then, he has been involved in numerous high profile storylines, tackling topics including depression, alcoholism and historic child abuse.

EastEnders continues Christmas Day at 9:25pm on BBC One.
