Bolton: Tributes left to boy after tragic bus collision

A community has been in shock as tributes are paid to a young boy who tragically died in Bolton on Friday.

The 11-year-old boy died after a collision with a bus while he was on his bike on Vernon Street, not far from Bolton town centre.

A police scene was in place at Vernon Street and Price Street for much of Friday afternoon and evening which has now cleared, with a floral tribute left in its wake.

Resident Leoni Johnson said: “Being a mum, you always put yourself in that situation and you think what if it was my child lying there?”

Describing the events of Friday, she added: “There were police all around, they were all around the backstreets there were riot vans, it even looked like there were armed police.

“Honestly, its so horrible, its one of the worst things to have happened round here.

“What’s absolutely heart wrenching is all the things he won’t get to do, he won’t get to grow and a family will have to live with that.”

The officers were called to the scene at around 1.40pm and set up a police cordon around the area.

Roads were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and drivers were advised to seek alternative routes.

Fire and rescue crews, including the technical response unit from Leigh Fire Station, were also called to the scene at around 2pm that afternoon.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed that they too were called to the scene on Friday afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police informed the public that the incident had been fatal later that evening.
