Bolton: Police discover large amount of cannabis plants

A large number of cannabis plants were discovered by police in an empty building in Bolton town centre.

Bolton South Neighbourhood team found the plants on Bridge Street yesterday afternoon (Monday January 10).

Officers have since cut down the plants and destroyed them, as well as equipment also being dismantled

A spokesperson for GMP Bolton South said: “Officers from the Bolton South Neighbourhood team attended a vacant premises on Bridge Street in Bolton this afternoon where a large number of cannabis plants had been discovered.

“The plants have been cut down and taken away to be destroyed.

The equipment set up at the property has been dismantled or rendered inoperable at the scene.

The Bolton News:

“If you are aware of anything suspicious in your community, please report it to your Neighbourhood team or ring 101.”

It now joins a growing list of cannabis farms that were discovered last year in Bolton.

Police carried out a raid in Egerton to find harvested cannabis plants behind a false wall in a garage in June last year.

In November last year a cannabis farm was discovered in Bolton town centre after police were called to a suspected burglary.

It was the fourth major cannabis farm found in the town centre in 2022.

More than 300 plants were found growing in the basement of premises on Deansgate.

It’s not the first time that a cannabis farm has been uncovered in Bolton town centre.

In January 2021 police located a cannabis farm producing drugs that had an estimated street value of half-a-million pounds, in an abandoned bank on Wood Street.

It came as a result of information officers received from the public.

Officers found around 900 plants weighing around 252 kilos spread across six rooms.

Similar cannabis farms have also been uncovered in recent months while arrests have been made around Bolton for the possession and sale of illegal drugs.

And it has been going on for a few years.

Farms were uncovered at the former Late Club and Bar Ice in Bank Street in 2014 and in 2021 two huge grows were found at an old bank and former BMW Williams premises in the town centre.
