TVLB and Northumbria Police rescue person on Tynemouth Longsands

A person had to be rescued by emergency and volunteer services after an incident at a North East beach.

After HM Coastguard received a report of an incident at Longsands Beach, in Tynemouth, the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) were deployed to help rescue one person.

They arrived within five minutes of receiving the call, arriving just before 9pm, and worked alongside Northumbria Police and Cullercoats RNLI to rescue the individual.

The person was spotted away from the coast, before being secured by the them and passed to other services.

When speaking on the incident, a TVLB spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard tasked the Brigade and Cullercoats RNLI to assist Northumbria Police with an incident at Tynemouth Longsands.

“Brigade members were on scene within 5 minutes of the call and quickly located one casualty.

“The casualty was supported away from the coastal environment and passed into the care of other services.

“All rescue units were stood down at around 21.15h.”

Meanwhile, the incident lasted for 30 minutes after their arrival, with all 9 TVLB members in attendance standing down at 9:15pm.

So far this year, TVLB have responded to 5 callouts.
